General Rules

Yang Ming 2nd International Children’s Painting Contest, 2008

1.      Objective:

Encouraging children to discover, imagine and observe the oceans, rivers, harbors or the future of the sea from different perspective and to represent the scenery of their hometowns through art creation so as to broaden children’s vision toward international oceans, to protect oceans, and to enrich human outlooks.

2.      Themes

 Yang Ming 2nd international children's painting contest features “The Beauty of the Sea.”

 (1) A portrayal of the scenery of hometown seas, coasts, rivers, lakes, ports, fishing villages.

 (2) A portrayal of the scenery of the future of the sea.

3.      Organizers

4.      Qualification for participants

School pupils aged from 4 up to 15

5.  Entries

(1) Varieties: Oil painting, water color painting, wood cut painting, pencil sketch, crayon drawing, pastel, collage, etching, design, etc.

(2) Size: within 55cm x 40cm (Mounting and framing are unnecessary.)

(3) The number of entries by each child is limited to one.

(4) Identification label: Please print or download the label from Yang Ming Oceanic Cultural and Art Museum (www.ocam.org.tw) or Yang Ming Museum of Marine Exploration KAOHSIUNG (www.mome.org.tw). Fill in all the blanks in detail and paste it on the lower, right corner of the painting.

(5) Deadline and delivery place for entries

(a) Deadline for entries: From now until September 27, 2008 (Saturday) with delivery date judged according to postmark.

(b) Delivery place for entries: Please refer to the address list of local YML agencies.

   If there is no YML agency in your country, please mail the paintings to

   6. Awards

Several first, second and third prizes and tablets are provided, depending on the number of entries. The scheduled number of prizes:

Gold Medal: 10, with a tablet and a trophy each

Silver Medal: 20, with a tablet and a trophy each

Bronze Medal: 30, with a tablet and a trophy each

Honorary mention: A citation is offered for each and the total number is to be decided according to the number of entries.

The names of prizewinner will be posted on the website of Yang Ming Oceanic Cultural and Art Museum (www.ocam.org.tw) or Yang Ming Museum of Marine Exploration KAOHSIUNG (www.mome.org.tw).

7. Jury:

Art educators are to be invited to serve as jurors

Criteria for judgment: Subject presentation, 30%; conception and creativity, 40%; and configuration expression, 30%

8. Award and exhibition: Date and location are to be prescribed separately.

9. Points of attention:

a.       Every participant must do his or her painting on his or her own. Copying, tracing, pirating or improving by others is not allowed. The jury will not evaluate an entry with any of these violations. If an entry is being charged of infringing copyright, the participant should bear the legal responsibility. If the cash reward or the prize has been issued, it will be taken back.

b.      The entries will not be returned. The copyright and publication right of these entries belong to the sponsoring organization – Yang Ming Cultural Foundation. The sponsoring organization has all rights to publish, republish, duplicate or use the works of the participants on various publicity materials or media without remuneration. No objection to this is allowed. The works that have won a prize or an honorary mention will become part of Yang Ming’s collection.
