Wildlife Photo National Campaign 2007 NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY CAMPAIGN

            The 2007 National Photography Campaign began on May 1.  The theme was wildlife of the old River Zuo-shuei

Taiwan.   The contest was open to anyone; each photographer was allowed to submit a unlimited number of entries. No manipulation of the images (e.g., Photoshop, etc.) was permitted.  

            The contest was sponsored by Taiwan Power Company (donation of NT$ 300,000) and Yuan Yu Industry Co. Ltd.  The Taiwan Quardian for Developing nature and Humanity Association organized the campaign.

            Judging took place on August 11, at Yuan Yu Industries Co. Ltd. Education Room, Taipei.  Judges were: Professor Ching-Hsia Chen, Wen-Hsin Huang, Mao-Nan Lin, Zi-Qiang Liao and K. K. Kuo.

            There were 50 entries and 200 digital images.

            Grand prize winners were:

                        1^st:  “Pacific Swallow” by Wen-You Xie

                        2^nd:  “Broussonetia papyrifera vs. Chrysomyia megacephala” by Xiou-Yang Huang

                        3^rd:  “Calliphoridae” by An-Ping Zheng

            First prize:  NT$20,000; Olympus digital camera FE230.

            Second Prize:  NT$10,000; Olympus digital camera FE230.

            Third Prize:  NT$5,000; Olympus digital camera FE230.

       5 Excellence Prize:  Olympus digital camera FE210.

20 Good Prize:  NT$2,000.

            The prizes will be awarded in Zhanghua.

◎冠軍First Prize: 洋燕 Pacific Swallow

燕子本身以善飛行著稱，要發現它停棲十分難得，雖然洋燕是常見鳥種，但舊濁水溪周遭卻孕育龐大族群，顯現舊濁水溪流域昆蟲生態豐富，本作品掌握展翅飛翔姿勢、構圖清楚，是展現自然生態景觀的佳作。

The swallow is good at flight. It’s rather difficult to see it perch on a branch. Although the Pacific Swallows can be spotted very easily, we find many of their habitats along the old River Zuo-shuei. This shows the abundance of ecological life there. This photo shows a Pacific Swallow spreading the wings, ready to fly. The well-composed image is clear. It really captures the essence of the wildlife in the River Zuo-Shuei.  

◎亜軍Second Prize: 構樹結果與大頭麗蠅 Broussonetia papyrifera vs. Chrysomyia megacephala

構樹是台灣原生樹種，於舊濁水溪兩岸有眾多的植株，每年結果成熟時，往往吸引各類昆蟲鳥類到訪。甜蜜的構樹果實，喜歡甜味的大頭麗蠅怎可能放過這噸免費大餐，本作品展現構樹果實的各各階段，且表現出成熟構樹果實對大頭麗蠅的吸引力，情趣合宜、主題清晰明確。

This tree is one main species of the many plants along the old River Zuo-Shuei. Whenever its fruit gets ripe, it attracts lots of insects and birds to have the feast. This image shows all the phases of the fruit of the Broussonetia papyrifera trees. The image quality is excellent, sharp and rich.

◎季軍Third Prize: 麗蠅 Calliphoridae

野牡丹開花吸引麗蠅到訪，本作品野牡丹絨毛清晰，構圖優美，色系明確。

The flower attracts the Calliphoridae to visit. The fur of the leaf is clearly presented. The image is well-composed. There is a strong contrast among the different colors.
