Dr. Shing Kuo Shih
and Mrs. Karen Shih
ITBA’s Vice
President and Treasurer

Dr.
Shing Kuo Shih is a retired chemist. Karen Shih is a retired
mathematician. They left Taiwan in 1970 and lived in USA and Germany
before coming to Vancouver in 1979.
Shing
Kuo is former president of Taiwanese Canadian Association of Canada and
former Chairperson of Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Society. He is Vice
President of the Taiwan International Birding Association (Canada).
Karen is
founder and Principal of the Vancouver West Taiwan School, which teaches
Mandarin and Taiwanese languages to adults and children. She is
Treasurer of the Taiwan International Birding Association (Canada).
Since
1991, they have been involved with many eco-tours and educational
programs, such as salmon hatchery, forest tour, Earth Day, BC Rivers
Day, and slide shows discussing environmental issues. Besides
volunteering for local community activities, they appreciate the beauty
of birds.
Both
Shing Kuo and Karen were founders of Canada Taiwan Bird Fair in 2002.
They participated in the first Birding in Taiwan group to go to Taiwan
in March, 2003.
