Dr. Shing Kuo Shih is a retired chemist.  Karen Shih is a retired mathematician.  They left Taiwan in 1970 and lived in USA and Germany before coming to Vancouver in 1979.

Shing Kuo is former president of Taiwanese Canadian Association of Canada and former Chairperson of Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Society.  He is Vice President of the Taiwan International Birding Association (Canada).

Karen is founder and Principal of the Vancouver West Taiwan School, which teaches Mandarin and Taiwanese languages to adults and children.  She is Treasurer of the Taiwan International Birding Association (Canada).

Since 1991, they have been involved with many eco-tours and educational programs, such as salmon hatchery, forest tour, Earth Day, BC Rivers Day, and slide shows discussing environmental issues.  Besides volunteering for local community activities, they appreciate the beauty of birds.

Both Shing Kuo and Karen were founders of Canada Taiwan Bird Fair in 2002.  They participated in the first Birding in Taiwan group to go to Taiwan in March, 2003.
