Dusky Fulvetta Alcippe brunnea brunnea
Endemic Subspecies
The Dusky Fulvetta is a small (13 cm) bird with brown upperparts, a rufous brown cap bordered by a thin black line, and grayish buff underparts. The iris is light brown or reddish brown, the bill is dark brown and the legs are pinkish. The Taiwan (nominate) subspecies brunnea differs from the adjacent mainland race mainly in being slightly smaller, with grayish buff rather than whitish underparts and darker upperparts.
The Dusky Fulvetta lives in the understory layer of evergreen and deciduous forests. It is usually found in small groups, searching for insects and small berries. In Taiwan it is a common resident year-round in forests from mid to high elevations.
